Candida Silva Viana, a loving mother, Vovó (grandmother), and friend, passed away peacefully on April 28th at the age of 80, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 7th, 1944, in Pelotas, Brazil, to Maria Universina Petito Da Silva and Arthur Rodrigues Da Silva. She lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep dedication to her family. She studied elementary education at Santa Margarita in Pelotas, where she also became a student teacher. On October 5th, 1968, she married Milton Jesus Barros Viana Sr. Following the birth of their first child, Andrea (Marro), in 1970, they immigrated to the United States, settling in Port Washington, NY, where they raised their family and welcomed three more children: Milton Jr., Arthur, and Michelle (Hanft). Candy was a beacon of strength and compassion, always there to offer a listening ear, a warm hug, or a helping hand. She found great joy in her “work family” at Bed Bath & Beyond, where she worked for over 20 years. Her home was filled with her warm smile and the comforting aroma of her signature black beans and rice simmering away. A devoted mother, she showered her family with unconditional love and support. She especially treasured her time with her grandchildren, Luke, Justin, Tanner, Lola, Daphne, and Hollace, creating countless memories that will be cherished forever. Candida was predeceased by her husband Milton, her sister Maria Helena, her brother Fernando, and her brother-in-law, Fernando Chrisostomo. She is survived by her loving children and grandchildren, her sister Marlene, her honorary sister Lourdes, and a host of extended family and friends in both the U.S. and Brazil. A service will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at 9am at Shelter Rock Church, 178 Cold Spring Rd, Syosset, NY, with burial to follow at Nassau Knolls Cemetery, Port Washington, NY.
