Cheryl Obenstine Obituary

Cheryl E Obenstine, aka Sargent Obenstine, aka “Cheri” Age: 74, of LaBelle, FL passed away from natural causes  on June 5, 2022 at the  Kanas Center Hospice, Westhampton Beach, NY. Born May 28, 1948 in Southampton, NY to her Father: Ova Lee Sargent and Mother: Alice R Sargent aka Naber. She was a Graduate of Riverhead High School, NY and a Graduate of NY University, NY-BSN Educating Hands School of Massage, FL.  She was an RN-Registered Nurse, NY & FL Specializing in Geriatrics , was Author of The Story of Love: 1985 By Cheryl E Sargent, RN CARLTON PRESS, INC NEW YORK, NY ISBN 0-8062-2105-4 LMT-Licensed Massage Therapist, NY & FL Specializing in Medical Massage. Surviving include her Sister: Regina Dizinno aka Sargent. She was the  proud Mom of 2 Daughters: 1) Altair Lee Rigdon (Daughter) Proud Oma to: a) Kieran D Schwarz (Grandson)-Benjamin T Schwarz (Great-Grandson) b) Karalyce C Schwarz (Granddaughter)-Sophia L Khachiaa (Great-Granddaughter) 2) Agena Rae Rigdon Hoffmann (Daughter) Proud Oma to Agena’s: a) 3 Children b) 3 Grandchildren. Cheri got to spend the last few days of her life at the Kanas Center. The most Exclusive, most Beautiful Hospice in the Woods, on the Water, in Westhampton Beach housing just 8 Patients. Surreal on so many levels. What a wonderful place to find “The End”. Cheri was a Firecracker in Life in more ways than one. Her Naturally Red Hair, the Snap-Crackle-Pop Attitude, and Flamboyances to go with it. She would remind us and give advice like “Life is Not a Dress Rehearsal”, “Life Happens when you are busy making Plans”, “Work Smarter, Not Harder”, and “In order to get Past It, you have to go through it”. She once Danced, skipping along the sidewalk in NYC after “The Wiz”, singing at the top of her lungs “Ease on Down the Road” (the singing she called “Wailing”- Especially the Honky Tonk). We will miss her Song, her Dance, her Advice, her Hugs, her Kisses, and her Jokes. She was sometimes just too Funny, her Laugh was Contagious, and so Genuine. It is understandable why she was placed in such a Glorious Atmosphere for her Grand Exit. The Curtain Call. She Deserved it and her visiting close family members needed it too… Cheri possessed so many Attributes. She was Empathetic, a Believer of a Brighter tomorrow, gave Hope to others (when they thought there was none), Self-Sacrificing (sometimes Generous to a flaw). She was a Giver, a Healer like no other when it came to her Nursing, Massage Therapy, and as a Mother, a Grandmother, and a Great Grandmother. It is understood now that Cheri was in Pain inside and out. Also, that she needed to “Walk to the Beat of her Own Drum”. That when the Doctors tried to shock her heart back into “Normal Rhythm” that it was only temporary. It wasn’t “Normal” for Cheri. She wasn’t able to really “Live” like that. She didn’t really feel “Alive” not walking anymore, her heart, and lung issues were worsening and she was starting to depend on others. To Cheri, that was unacceptable. She was always going to consider herself; the Caregiver, the Mom, the Oma, the Nurse. Not the other way around…it was evident that Cheri had not been Happy for a while and worried about everyone else way too much. Cheri had been looking for the Treasure at End of the Rainbow, but letting others go before. It was Cheri’s turn. It is ok that she had to go…we will all meet again “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. Cheri, Mom, & Oma: Please Know that You are Loved and will be Missed Dearly! XOXOXO NO SERVICES A Small Family Celebration of Life Gathering for Cheri will occur in an undisclosed Place and Time.
