David Louis Lebowitz, also known as Pop, Poppy and Buddy Dave, passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 80 in Riverhead, NY. He was born on May 17, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Anna and Raymond Lebowitz (now deceased). David was a brilliant and hysterically funny individual, known for his great sense of humor, intellectual curiosity and dedication to excellence in everything he pursued.
David was a devoted husband to his beautiful wife Fran (Franny), as well as a loving and caring father to his daughters, Jennifer Colnick ("Pup") and Alison Scaringella. He adored his granddaughters, Logan and Lilah Colnick and grandson, Michael Scaringella.
David attended Massapequa High School and proudly served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army for three years, earning multiple commendations. After the Army, he furthered his education at CW Post, where he earned an undergraduate degree as well as a Master's degree in Health Care Administration.
Throughout his career, David excelled, whether it be as a Commissioned Officer and Field Trainer in the Army, a Human Resources Director, a PGA-certified golf teaching pro, or as an Internationally Certified Boat Captain. He was never afraid to learn new things. In fact, he embraced new challenges and first passed the test to become a boat Captain at the age of 75!
David found solace celebrating the holidays with his family and friends, and especially loved family gatherings at the Cape with the entire Greenwald clan. He enjoyed various hobbies such as boating, golfing, watching football with his son-in-law Craig, barbecuing, traveling and spending quality time with his beloved Franny, his children and grandchildren.
David is survived by his wife and soulmate, Franny, daughters Jennifer (husband Craig) and Alison (husband Vincent), his sister and best friend, Nina ("Buddy Neen") Greenwald, brother-in-law (and constant confidant and mentor) Herb Greenwald, as well as his most adored nephews, Dan (wife Kim), Ken (wife Kristen) and Josh (wife Jodi) Greenwald. He was fortunate to also have an extended bonus family; stepsons Josh Weiner (wife Samantha) and Sandy Weiner (wife Amanda). He was also a loving Poppy to Josh and Samanthas' sons, Jackson and Austin.
