Devora (Dee) Brooks was born June 1, 1933 to the late Mary Lucy Walker and Benjamin Sykes in Jackson, NC. On Tuesday, April 23, 2019 the angel of peace came to take her home. She is now free of pain, sorrow and grief. Sleep on Mama with Daddy and Junie, your pain is gone and no more suffering. Dee moved to Long Island, NY where she met and married George “Bill” Brooks, Sr. on October 10th in 1953. To this union was born 4 children: Anna, George Jr., Elisa and James. Dee loved to cook and worked at the Riverhead Nursing Home until she retired. She loved to read and would read any type of book. She was predeceased by her parents her, her son George Jr., her husband “Bill’ and sisters Ida, Lelar, Lucy, and Gloria and her brothers James, Ben, Leroy and Roosevelt. She leaves to mourn her children,Anna Brown ofWesthampton Beach, NY; Elisa Brooks of Raleigh, NC; and James Brooks (Ann) of Centereach, NY. She leaves her sisters Beatrice Thomas, Audrey Sims and Bea Burgess. Sisters-in-laws Geraldean Holman (Clyde) of Delaware, Stella Wright (Daniel) of Brooklyn, NY, Sylviann Wilson (Ulysses) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Lessie Mae Miller of West Palm Beach, FL, and Mary Pinckney of Riverhead, NY. Daughter-in-law Darlene Brooks of Maryland, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Devora loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren (19) and great grandchildren (28) and one great-great grandchild. She will truly be missed by everyone she came in touch with.
