Doris M. Towers (nee Mitchell), died peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, at the Westhampton Care Center on October 24, 2019, in Westhampton New York at the age of 91.
Doris was born on September 13, 1928, in Stratford New Jersey to Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell. She married Richard B. Towers, know as Dick, in 1948. They lived in many places while Dick served in the military, most favorably Hawaii and Puerto Rico. They eventually settled in Westhampton Beach to raise their family. A place she called home for over 50 years.
Doris loved music and was an accomplished Cellist. She was active in her community, serving for many years as a Girl Scout leader. She was a generous and witty lady whose door was always open to her children’s friends and any stray animal who wandered in. She was passionate about her church and was an active member at the Westhampton Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her children, Tim and his wife Rosey, Lori Wilder and husband Keith, and granddaughter Karlyn Sabo, all of Westhampton Beach. She is also survived by nephews, extended family, and friends. She was preceded by death by her husband of 40 years, her parents and her sister Aileen Young.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, November 1st at 10:00am with a Deacon’s reception to follow at the Westhampton Presbyterian Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doris’ life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Presbyterian Woman of the Westhampton Presbyterian Church.
