George (Bill) Brooks, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the age of 87 at his home in Westhampton Beach, NY. He was born January 18, 1931 to the late James Perkins and Lessie Brooks in Crawford, NC.
He moved to Long Island, NY where he met Devora Sykes. They were married October 10, 1953 and stayed together for 65 years. Westhampton Beach is where George, also known as “Poppie” to his great-granchildren, worked as a landscaper until he retired. He loved to watch westerns (shoot ‘em ups) chew gum and listen to Polka Music.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Devora, their children, Anna Brown of Westhampton Beach, NY; Elisa Brooks of Raleigh, NC; and James Brooks (Ann) of Centereach, NY. A daughter in law, Darlene Brooks of Baltimore, Maryland. He leaves five sisters, Gerladean Holman (Clyde) of Delaware, Stella Wright (Daniel) of Brooklyn, NY, Sylviann Wilson (Ulysses) of Port St. Lucie, FL. Lessie Mae Miller of West Palm Beach, FL, and Mary Pinckney of Rivehead, NY. He is predeceased by his son, George, Jr., sister Adabell Bond, and brother, Al Cowell. He also leaves behind his sisers-in-law Audrey Sims, Beatrice Thomas and Beatrice Burgess. George loved his family, especially his grandchildren (15) and great grandchildren (39) and one great great grandchild, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will truly be missed by all.
