Raynor, George Thomas
October 16, 1952 - March 17, 2019
George Thomas Raynor, known to many friends as Tom, passed away suddenly on March 17, 2019 at the age of 66.
Born in Southampton and raised in Westhampton Beach, Tom attended Westhampton Beach schools before graduating with a Bachelor's degree from Plymouth State College in New Hampshire and a Masters degree from Stonybrook University. After starting his teaching career in the William Floyd School District, he returned to Westhampton Beach and taught Physical Education and Health in the Middle school, retiring after 30+ years. He connected with his students in a special and meaningful way, making a lasting impact on the lives of many students as well as his colleagues, friends and family over the years.
His passion for sports was unrivaled, especially skiing and golf. He won or placed in many golf club tournaments and recreational ski races over the years. His love of skiing and teaching translated into him becoming a PSIA certified ski instructor at Okemo, his beloved home mountain, for several years before retiring to simply enjoy the sport.
He was a proud father and grandfather, survived by his daughter Melissa, son in law Eric Johnson and granddaughter Hayden; daughter Megan, son in law Mike Iarocci and granddaughter Makayla; his beloved son, Kevin as well as his brother Christopher "Yogi" Raynor and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, George, Pamela (Reeder), and brothers Mark and Matthew Raynor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Tom can be made to The Coombs Foundation to help support programs allowing underprivileged youth to participate in skiing and other outdoor activities. https://coombsfoundation.org/
