James R. Craig passed peacefully into the embrace of our Lord on March 28, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on May 20, 1932, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, James was an only child who navigated both challenges and successes throughout his life. At just 17 years old, he answered the call of duty, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps and serving three years in the Korean War (1949–1952). For his bravery and sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat, along with a Gold Star in lieu of a second Purple Heart. On December 10, 1952, James was honorably discharged, but his deep love for the USMC and his country remained steadfast for the next 73 years. Shortly after his service, James met the love of his life, Marianne Carpenter. Together, they built a home in Floral Park, NY, and shared 56 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on August 11, 2014. Their greatest legacy was the family they created—six devoted children: Laura (Michael) Sauter, Barbara Sheridan, Carol (Matthew) Kennedy, James (Madeline) Craig, Patricia (Robert) Kelleher, and Michael (Mary) Craig. He was also a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildrenand, to date, eight great-grandchildren.
Beyond his 40-year career on Wall Street, James always considered his family to be his proudest achievement. A devoted husband and father, he was the patriarch of his close-knit family—a guiding force, a steadfast presence, and the "lighthouse" illuminating the way for those he loved. His wisdom, counsel, and unwavering love will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. Now reunited with Marianne, they continue the journey they began together, watching over their family with love.
