Jane Bossung Obituary

Jane Audrey Bossung of Westhampton, NY died peacefully at home on February 7th at the age of 91. Born on June 25, 1930, in Queens, New York, Jane was the daughter of Gladys (Leonhardt) and Campbell Carmichel. Along with Jane’s sister, Joan, the Carmichel family lived in Lynbrook, NY. After graduating from Lynbrook High School, Jane worked in the Empire State Building in Manhattan.
In 1953, Jane married her high school sweetheart, Robert F. Bossung. While Bob served as an Air Force Reconnaissance Pilot in the Korean War, Jane and their first-born son stayed with family on Long Island. Upon his retirement from the military, Jane and Bob built a home in East Quogue where they raised their four children. In future years, Jane and Bob built homes in Remsenburg and in Westhampton. In the early 1970’s, they established the family’s real estate business, Hampton Properties, in Westhampton Beach.
Jane was an active member of Beach United Methodist Church for many years and served as a Treasurer and later a Trustee.
Their love of travel led Jane and Bob on numerous vacations including many memorable sailing trips around the U.S. and British Virgin Islands on their sailboat, The Ballerina. It was in St. Thomas that they built a home where they would spend the winter months, always opening their door to family and friends. Jane loved to entertain and made every Holiday a special occasion. Enjoying time at the beach, gardening and playing tennis were some of Jane’s favorite pastimes. Jane dedicated her life to her family. From cooking for a houseful to cheering on her children at their sporting events, Jane’s graceful, loving, warm personality was ever present. Her love of family expanded even more when each of her grandchildren arrived. She adored spending time with them and was a doting grandmother.

Jane was predeceased by her parents, her sister Joan Heiple-Seeholzer, sister-in-law Della Bossung and her beloved husband, Bob. She leaves behind her two sons Thomas (Alexandra) of Remsenburg, Robert (Margaret) of East Quogue and her two daughters, Paula Raynor of Westhampton Beach and Kathryn Stachnik (Michael) of Westhampton. In addition, Jane leaves behind seven grandchildren, Melissa (Eric) Raynor- Johnson, Megan (Mike) Iarocci and Kevin Raynor, Kristen and Dana Stachnik, Blane and Carly Bossung, two great-granddaughters, Makayla Iarocci and Hayden Johnson, her brothers-in-law Richard Bossung and Kenneth (Shawn) Bossung and several nieces and nephews.
A private family service is scheduled at Beach United Methodist Church in Westhampton Beach. Jane will be interred at Calverton National Cemetery with her "Bobby" and a celebration of her life will be held at a future date.

Jane’s family extends a sincere thank-you to the staff and nurses at East End Hospice for their care and compassion. The entire Hospice team was a true blessing to Jane and our family. In Jane’s memory, donations to East End Hospice eeh.org or the Beach United Methodist Church (Box 1746, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978) would be appreciated.
