Joanna Leather Sutton
December 2, 1939 to October 15, 2025
Joanna (Jo) Sutton passed away on October 15, 2025, after a brief illness at her home in Westhampton, NY. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Kelso F. Sutton, and is survived by her sons Kelso, of Quogue, NY, and Alex (Tracy), of Orient, NY, and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Sutton was born in Manhattan, NY, the only child of Percy and Agatha (Moran) Leather. She grew up on the upper east side of Manhattan, going to elementary and secondary school at Nightingale Bamford, class of '57. She was a talented pianist and graduated magna cum laude from Radcliffe College, class of '61, with a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages and Literature.
She married Kelso in June of 1961, and after a brief stint as a teacher in Manhattan, raised her two children in the city and along the way had a 20-year career as a licensed real estate agent, working at Stribling Associates. She assisted her husband’s career in many ways as a hostess, advisor and sounding board throughout his tenure at Time Inc. She and Kelso loved adventure and extensively traveled the world visiting every continent.
Jo was a member of the Westhampton Country Club, the Long Island Club, and the Quantuck Beach Club, all located on the eastern end of Long Island, where the Suttons have been summering since the 70's. In Florida, she was an active member of the Sailfish Yacht Club and The Breakers.
A private burial service will be held on October 25th, 2025, at 11:00 AM in Westhampton, NY at the Westhampton Cemetery.
