Lawrence Robert Wilson of New York City, died February 20, 2021.
Affectionately known to his friends as “the most interesting man in the world,” Lawrence Robert Wilson was a gifted raconteur who always embraced the motto “living well is the best revenge.” He was elegant, charming and sophisticated, with a quick wit and caustic sense of humor. Flashing a smile that could light up a room, he radiated a positive outlook that made you think nothing could ever be that bad. He was incredibly generous, always thinking of someone other than himself.
His adventurous and diverse career spanned industries and continents: from Soldier of the Cycle in boot camp, to writing for Women’s Wear Daily and the underground newspaper The East Village Other, to appearing on the soap opera “The Secret Storm,” and working with or providing communications expertise to leaders as varied as Nelson Mandela, Silvio Berlusconi and film director Claude Lelouch. A dinner party with Lawrence holding forth was guaranteed to captivate guests.
A world traveler, he loved enjoying fine food, wine and culture with his beloved wife, Desiree Fish, whom he adored. He was the best husband a woman could ask for – supportive, doting, spoiling. He happily gave his entire heart and all his love to Desiree, and his family and dearest friends.
