Leigh Phillips Obituary

Leigh Phillips of East Quogue NY and Ashland VA passed away on May 15, 2020. He was 92 years old.

Born on May 24, 1927, he was raised in East Quogue. Leigh graduated from Westhampton Beach High School. He earned a BS from Alfred University, and a MS from the University of Rochester.

Leigh’s professional career was devoted to radiation safety at Brookhaven National Laboratory. He lived with his wife, Mary F. Phillips, in Westhampton Beach, where they raised their three children. They then moved to East Quogue, and later to Ashland VA. Leigh and Mary were long time members of St Mark’s Church. Leigh’s interests included genealogy, Buck Rogers, gardening, travel, and many other pursuits.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, and their children, Wendy Wood, Kay Lynch (husband David), and David Phillips (wife Carole). Grandchildren are Melissa Hawks, Sarah Wood, Rebekah Wood, Matthew Lynch, Daniel Lynch, and Matthias Phillips. Great grandchildren are Josiah, Zoe, Benjamin, Alexander, and Elizabeth Hawks.

A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in East Quogue.
