Mary Rose Atanasio, lovingly known to many as “Mimi” passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026 at the age of 77 with her husband and adoring sons by her side.
Born in New York City, Mary spent her childhood in her family home in Oceanside, New York with her parents, Katherine and Daniel Sofio, and 6 siblings until she met Charles, her husband of 51 years, and moved to Long Beach, then Dix Hills, and eventually Westhampton.
Mary was a white light with a heart of gold; a loving, warm, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Charles said she was “the closest thing to a saint living on the earth.” She loved to cook, host a good party and read mystery novels. She enjoyed daily lunch dates with Charles and she never missed a Yankee game. She was a kind, calm and steady force in our lives and it is impossible to think of our world without her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles, sons Chuck and Eric, daughter-in-laws, Alison and Cara, her 4 grandchildren Sydney, CJ, Lulu and Sunny, siblings, Tommy, Felicia, Regina and her twin sister Kathy, predeceased by her brother Danny and sister Celia, and survived by countless nieces and nephews.
The wake for Mary will be this Wednesday, April 15th and Thursday, April 16th at Werner- Rothwell Funeral Home 60 Mill Road, Westhampton Beach
Viewings are 1-3p and 5p-8p both days
The funeral will be at 11am on Friday April 17th at Alexander - Rothwell Funeral Home in Wading River. 6447 Route 25a in Wading River. With burial immediate following at Calverton National Cemetery.
