Maureen Zuk Obituary

Maureen Kelly Zuk, illustrious educator, counselor and personal coach from Naples, Florida (formerly of Port Jefferson Station, New York) passed away on September 13, 2024.

She was born on April 7, 1942 in New York City to the late James Bartholomew and Anne Rita Kelly.

Maureen’s teaching career began in PS 30, Bronx, New York and then as a Guidance Counselor at PS 51. She moved to Long Island and taught in the Three Village School District. On a leave of absence from Three Village, Maureen taught for the Department of Defense in Ludwigsburg, Germany which enabled her to fulfill a dream of visiting other countries in Europe. Upon meeting her husband, John Zuk, she moved to San Jose, CA where she taught and was active in professional organizations.

She held degrees from Marymount Manhattan College and New York University Graduate School. Among her many achievements she was named the San Jose Mercury Teacher of the Year two years in a row.

Maureen was a passionate learner and supporter of the sciences, technology and creative arts. Active in various multi-cultural and educational communities, she left a lasting legacy in every community she touched.

She was active in many organizations including the American Helicopter Society, the Alumni Associations of MMC and NYU, the Christopher Movement, St. Anthony Church in Rocky Point and the Fairfield Knolls North Ladies Literary Society. She was a parishioner of St. Gerard Majella Church in Port Jefferson Station.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Zuk, PhD, an aerospace engineer at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA and her sister Dorothy Kuveke. Maureen’s memory will be carried on by her siblings Joan and Jim Kelly, and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and their children.

Though she is no longer with us, Maureen's spirit and the love she shared endure in the hearts of those she influenced. She will be remembered with warmth, love and gratitude.
