Ralph Joseph Downs

Ralph Joseph Downs of Westhampton, New York, passed away on May 15, 2025, in Clearwater, Florida. He was 94 years old.

Born on January 31, 1931, in Westhampton Beach, Ralph was the son of James Sherwood Downs and Ida Downs (Szymanowski). He lived in Westhampton his entire life and remained closely connected to his family and community. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret Downs (Spurr), and his brothers Kenneth, Sherwood, and Raymond Downs. He is survived by his sister, Arlene Eckles.

Ralph built a long and respected career as a skilled electrician and proud member of IBEW Local 25. His work took him across the country on a variety of projects, where he was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and dedication to his craft.

He is survived by his two children, Susan Akhoondan of Safety Harbor, Florida, and Kevin Downs of Westhampton Beach, New York. Ralph was a grandfather to five grandchildren and a great-grandfather to two great-granddaughters.

More than anything, Ralph treasured time spent with family and friends. He was a talented painter, a wonderful storyteller, and a gentle soul who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether he was recounting memories from the past or quietly observing the present, he brought warmth and light into every room.

A church service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Westhampton Presbyterian Church, followed by a short reception and burial at Westhampton Cemetery.
