Richard A. Bossung, 90, of Westhampton, NY and Longboat Key, FL, passed away on October 23, 2023 surrounded by loved ones.
Richard was born on February 28, 1933, the second of three sons, to George and Marie Bossung in New York. He attended Lynbrook High School, where he excelled in football and basketball, and more importantly where he met his future wife Della Minerva. After graduating high school in 1950, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as Military Police during the Korean War.
On September 28, 1957, he married Della (Minerva) his high school sweetheart. Richard was happiest spending time with Della, and their pure love, joy, and devotion to one another was palpable. The two spent their days travelling, skiing, playing tennis and boating. Although Richard and Della never had children of their own, they were always present in their many nieces and nephews’ lives, and provided many wonderful memories which will be cherished.
Richard provided a wonderful life for Della and himself, secondary to a keen sense of business and real estate. In his early years, Richard and his brother Robert started an electrical company, “Bossung Brothers,” as well as “Hampton Dredging and Dock Building”. With his knack for entrepreneurship and love of tennis, Richard established the East Side Tennis Club in Westhampton, NY in the 1970’s.
Richard will always be remembered for his sense of humor, loyalty, kindness, sense of adventure and generosity.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, George and Marie, his beloved wife Della, his brother Robert, and sisters-in-law Sadie, Jane, and Shawn. He is survived by his brother Kenneth, brother-in-law Giovanni, and leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Visitation will be Friday, October 27, 2023 at Werner Rothwell Funeral home, located at 60 Mill Road, Westhampton Beach, NY, Between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9. A service is scheduled on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10:00 at the Immaculate Conception Church 580 Main Street Quiogue, NY.
