Robert Jenkins Obituary

Robert “Bobby” J. Jenkins, 68, of Remsenburg sadly passed away at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care on October 31st after a 14-month battle with brain cancer.

Born in Dunfermline, Scotland on November 11, 1951, he was the only child of John and May Jenkins. At 17, he chose a career as a golf professional and played on the European Tour prior to coming to the United States in 1976. After working at Middle Bay Country Club and Woodmere Club in Nassau County, he was hired amid a wide field of applicants as the Head PGA Golf Professional at Westhampton Country Club in 1981, a position he held until his retirement in 2017. The club members and employees became his second family and while overseeing all aspects of golf operations, he instilled a love of the game to many, along with his Scottish charm and great sense of humor.

Bobby will be remembered for his larger than life personality, strong work ethic and cheery disposition. He was a great storyteller and a loyal, trustworthy friend. He leaves behind a legacy of positively impacting the lives of numerous young people, whether as their golf instructor, coach, boss or mentor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Mary Ellen, his children, John and Ashley A., of whom he was so proud. They know his spirit will live forever within all those who knew and loved him.

Donations in his memory may be made to either Church of the Immaculate Conception Outreach Ministry, P.O. Box 1227 Westhampton Beach, NY 11978, or to East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048 Westhampton Beach, NY 11978.
