Shelley G. Vakay

Born as Shelley Grey Norwood, her journey began on March 22nd, 1934. Shelley attended Eastport High School, she graduated in 1951. Shelley married the love of her life, Havens Jack Vakay, on August 1st, 1953. Together they had 3 remarkable children, Brenda, Scott, and Neal. Later in life she was blessed with 3 grandchildren, Suzanna, Vicky, and Haven,  along with 2 alluring great-grandchildren, Jackelynn and Jimmy. Throughout her life she was an avid bird admirer. She loved bird watching and was an active member of the Moriches Bay Audubon Society. At one point in her many years she owned a bird themed store with her sister Kathy. Together they called it "Wild Bird Marketing Place." She was raised as a child of God, and found a second home at the Eastport Bible Church. She cherished all things in nature, from wild and native flowers, to all kinds of trees and animals. She was always overjoyed to spend time tending to her gardens and fish pond, and elated when watching birds come and go in her bird sanctuary. 

Shelley went to the rapture with the love of Christ in her heart on May 7th, 2020. 

A Celebration of Life will take place at the Eastport Bible Church on Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 at 10 AM. A burial of the urn will follow the services at the Eastport Cemetery.
