Sherman Nicholas Kearns of Ridge NY formerly of Westhampton Beach passed away peacefully at Stonybrook Hospital surrounded by his family on November 19.2022. Sherman was born to Margaret and William Kearns in Syracuse New York. Sherman spent the first several years of his life growing up in Syracuse then the family moved to eastern Long Island NY first living in East Quogue then moving to Westhampton Beach in the 1970’s.
Sherman worked at the German Deli in Westhampton Beach for many years as a teen, many people knew him from the deli. Sherman then went on to College at SUNY Cortland becoming an electrical apprentice in the 1980’s. Sherman graduated with top honors from IBEW apprenticeships to become an Electrician for IBEW and Northgate Electric for many years.
Sherman met his wife Susan Polito at her place of employment while he was working for Northgate Electrical. Sherman and Susan dated for about a year, then were married in a small ceremony in Nevada. The couple then moved to Ridge where they began their life as husband and wife. Sherman and Susan had two children Kaitlyn and Marissa.
Sherman was well known in this area, assisting Veterans, and he would be always seen assisting At Christmas time laying wreaths at Calverton National Cemetery. His hobbies included coin collecting and he was an avid gun enthusiast. Sherman was known to be funny, and a lover of all animals especially his two dogs, Sophie, and Tasha. Sherman was always an added support of the community and will be missed by his family and friends.
Sherman is survived by his wife Susan Kearns (Polito), his daughters Kaitlyn & Marissa Kearns, his siblings Mary Kearns Lehman, John Kearns (Joy) & Sarah Kearns Sulzinski (Paul). His father-in law -Charles Polito. Sister & Brother in-law, Debra Polito Long (Ken), Linda Polito, Michael Polito(Tammy), Charles Polito, Patricia Polito Tyndall (Billy) and many nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs Sophie & Tasha.
Sherman was predeceased by his parents Margaret & William Kearns and his mother-in-law Patricia Polito.
A wake is scheduled at Werner Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach for Saturday November 26, 2022, viewing times are 11am -1pm, prayer service at 1pm, a private burial will be held the following week at Oakwood Cemetery in East Quogue NY.
