Vivian Akin Culver was born in Ponca City, OK, on August 2, 1922 to Vera Gross Akin and Thomas J. Akin. She grew up in Oklahoma during the depression and was salutatorian of her high school class. She attended Cameron college and during WWII, worked as a telephone operator.

She met her husband, Hallock, then a U.S. Army soldier, in Lawton, Oklahoma, in August 1946. They were married on November 28, 1946 and shortly thereafter began their life in Westhampton. They were married for 69 years until his passing.

Besides family, Vivian was very faithful to the West Methodist Church, serving in many church groups, and was also known as the Church Historian. She was also active in the Westhampton Beach Historical Society. An avid bridge player, she played weekly for over 25 years.

Vivian was predeceased by her husband, Hallock Ward Culver, her parents, a brother, Thomas, a sister, Virginia and an infant, Lawrence. They owned the family business, H. R. Culver Plumbing Company, where she served as secretary. The business was started by Hallock's father and is operated today by her son Dean.

She is survived by her beloved children, Daniel (Kathleen), Lauren Barlow (James), Dean (Regina), and Wayne (Jill). Also, thirteen grandchildren, Steven (Marissa), Kerin Beedenbender (Brian), Sean (Brittany), James Barlow (Lisa), Sarah Sinclair (Derik), Julia Barlow, Emily Dawson (William), Lesley Anthony (Joel), Abby Lynch (Chad), Matthew, Robert, Jeffrey and Eric Culver. She leaves a legacy of 15 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at the Westhampton United Methodist Church followed by burial at the Westhampton Cemetery, on Monday April 1, 2019.
